About The Shakedown

The Shakedown Café is a student-run restaurant and community space serving delicious, locally sourced meals that are both environmentally and socially sustainable in a venue of art, music and creative energy. The Shakedown was founded on the belief that people must be connected to the food they eat. Food is about choices and with those choices comes power. To that end, The Shakedown is dedicated to the mission of educating our community about food issues and empowering ourselves to make change.

The Shakedown emphasizes the importance of conscious consumption and ethical business practices. We are committed to supporting local farms and vendors as well as promoting alternative marketplaces and means of production. We strive to foster an active and inclusive community that promotes self-expression, discussion, education and empowerment for Pitzer students, faculty, staff and community members.

The Shakedown was started by group of five undergrads in 2007 when a Chinese restaurant on campus closed its doors. Our fresh, local and delicious food is made with love and provides an alternative dining option for all 7C students, locals and visitors. In 2014, we moved into a newly-renovated space with full commercial kitchen capacity. The business if co-managed by a group of ten students. If you want to know more, or find yourself looking for a cozy atmosphere and scrumptious food, come check us out!

Peace & Love,
